Bistek Tagalog or Filipino Beef Steak is one of my favorite Filipino dishes. I got this recipe from my dad. It’s a simple, yet great tasting beef recipe. It is best paired with white rice. I’m sure you will love this Bistek Tagalog recipe as much as we do!
Ingredients:
- 1 lb beef sirloin or beef chuck (thinly sliced against the grain)
- 4 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 medium onion
- 1 1/2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 tsp brown sugar
- salt and pepper to taste
- garlic powder (optional)
- oil for frying beef (3-4 tbsp)
- 1 tbsp butter
- white or purple onion, cut into rings (toppings)
Marinade:
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 3 tbsp fresh lime or calamansi
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
Cooking Procedure:
- Combine all the ingredients for marinade in a bowl. Add beef and marinate for about 15-30 minutes depending on thickness of beef. (If your beef is super thin, don’t marinate for too long or it will be salty)
- Heat the cooking oil in a pan then fry the marinated beef until color turns light brown. Set aside.
- In a separate pan, melt the butter.
- Brown the garlic, then add the onions. Saute for a few minutes.
- Put in the fried beef, water, oyster sauce, and brown sugar. Bring to a soft boil and simmer for 5-8 minutes.
- Season with salt(optional), pepper and garlic powder to taste.
- Serve hot and top with some white or purple onion rings.
- Share and enjoy!
